Why this exists

Walk into a barbershop and say “high taper fade” and you can get four different haircuts from four different barbers. Not because they are careless, but because the language is loose and almost nobody has written it down properly.

Search the term and you will find the same article twenty times: a few hundred words of filler, a gallery of borrowed photographs, and an affiliate link to pomade. Nobody explains where the guideline sits. Nobody mentions that a taper is a specific thing that happens at the perimeter, and that a fade is a blending technique which can be applied almost anywhere.

This site is the correction.

What we publish

Three kinds of work.

Technique. How a cut is built, in the order a barber builds it. Guard numbers in millimetres, where the taper starts measured against your own ear, blending sequence, and the exact language to use at the chair.

Science. What is actually known about hair growth, density and scalp health. Where the research is thin or contested, we say so instead of picking the answer that makes a better headline.

Assessment. Products and tools, measured against what they claim to do.

What we will not do

We will not tell you a product is transformative. We will not recommend a routine with eleven steps. We will not publish a “best of” list assembled from other people’s reviews.

On the numbers we quote

Growth rates, shrinkage percentages and upkeep intervals on this site are typical ranges, not guarantees. Hair grows at roughly 1.25 centimetres a month on average, but individual rates vary by a meaningful margin, and how visible regrowth looks depends on the contrast between your hair and your skin. We give ranges where ranges are honest.

Corrections

We get things wrong. When we do, we fix the piece, date the correction, and leave the original claim visible so you can see what changed. The editorial policy sets out how that works.
